Americans are revisiting some familiar emotions after seeing children die in a mass shooting. On Tuesday, a gunman killed 19 students and two teachers at an elementary school in Texas. The school is in the city of Uvalde, about an hour's drive from the Mexican border. Police said the man stormed the building before midday. Police identified the shooter as Salvador Ramos, an 18-year-old high school student. He started firing inside one of the classrooms then kept going. A border patrol agent shot and killed him. President Joe Biden addressed the nation. He asked Americans why they are willing to "live with this carnage." He told them to "stand up to the gun lobby" and pressure lawmakers to pass stricter laws. People in Texas can buy guns once they reach 18. Investigators said Ramos bought two rifles shortly after his birthday, a few days before the shooting.
