Finland's PM meets with Zelenskyy in Kyiv NHK

Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin visited Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, on Thursday and held a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Ukraine's presidential office reported that Marin said, "The heroic spirit of the Ukrainian people, who are fighting for their freedom and the whole of Europe, is admirable."

Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for Finland's military assistance and sanctions against Russia.

He also said visits of high-ranking foreign officials to Ukraine are "very important direct signals of support."

Referring to Ukraine's application for European Union membership, Zelenskyy said he is confident that Finland's vote will not disappoint the Ukrainian people.

The Finnish government said Marin visited Bucha and Irpin and heard local people's accounts of atrocities committed by Russian soldiers. She reportedly said there would be no room for impunity.

Finland applied last week for NATO membership, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
