Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin visited Ukraine&#039;s capital, Kyiv, on Thursday and held a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
                
Ukraine&#039;s presidential office reported that Marin said, &quot;The heroic spirit of the Ukrainian people, who are fighting for their freedom and the whole of Europe, is admirable.&quot;
                
Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for Finland&#039;s military assistance and sanctions against Russia.
                
He also said visits of high-ranking foreign officials to Ukraine are &quot;very important direct signals of support.&quot;
                
Referring to Ukraine&#039;s application for European Union membership, Zelenskyy said he is confident that Finland&#039;s vote will not disappoint the Ukrainian people.
                
The Finnish government said Marin visited Bucha and Irpin and heard local people&#039;s accounts of atrocities committed by Russian soldiers. She reportedly said there would be no room for impunity.
                
Finland applied last week for NATO membership, following Russia&#039;s invasion of Ukraine.
