Zelenskyy visits eastern region of Kharkiv NHK

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has visited the nation's eastern region of Kharkiv.

Multiple media outlets say this marks his first trip to eastern Ukraine since the Russian invasion of his country began in late February.

Ukraine's presidential office says the governor informed the president that 31 percent of the region's territory remains temporarily occupied by Russian forces, with another 5 percent liberated.

Zelenskyy also met Ukrainian service personnel, and thanked each of them for risking their lives to defend Ukraine's independence.
