Japan's industrial output fell in April for the first time in three months as the lockdown in Shanghai takes its toll on Japan's economy. The production index was down 1.3 percent from the previous month. That index covers 15 sectors. Seven of them saw a downturn, including electronic parts and devices, production machinery and automobiles. The Japanese government attributes the decline to a drop in demand overseas as well as the Shanghai lockdown disrupting supply chains for the construction machinery and auto sectors. The numbers have prompted the industry ministry to revise its outlook. It previously said industrial production was showing signs of picking up. Now it says it is "pausing."
