Twelve people remain missing on the final day of a three-day intensive search after the sinking of a tour boat off Hokkaido in northern Japan more than one month ago.
                
The KAZU I, carrying 26 people, sank off the Shiretoko Peninsula on April 23. Fourteen passengers have been confirmed dead.
                
Vessels and aircraft of the Coast Guard, Self-Defense Forces and others conducted an intensive search from Sunday to Tuesday in wide areas from the peninsula to Kunashiri Island. Kunashiri is one of four Russian-controlled islands that Japan claims as an inherent part of its territory.
                
More than 30 vessels including local fishing and tour boats joined the search on Tuesday. As of 5 p.m., no missing persons had been found.
                
The KAZU I, which has been salvaged and placed on a barge, will be unloaded at Abashiri Port, about 45 kilometers from where it was raised, on Wednesday morning. The boat is to be shown to the passengers&#039; families later in the day.
