Weather officials in Japan say more torrential rain is possible in the southwestern prefecture of Okinawa on Wednesday. The Meteorological Agency said on Tuesday that 171 millimeters of rain fell in Nanjo City and 157 millimeters in Naha City in the 6 hours until past 4 p.m., both record highs for the month of May. Officials say there may be as much as 120 millimeters of rain in the main island region during the 24 hours through early Wednesday evening. They are calling on residents to be cautious against landslides, flooding, swollen rivers, lightning and gusty winds.
