German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has pledged to supply Ukraine with state-of-the-art antiaircraft missiles.
Addressing the Bundestag on Wednesday, Scholz said his government will provide Ukraine with the IRIS-T system, Germany's most modern air defense system.
He said the system will enable Ukraine to protect an entire city from Russian air attacks.
Scholz also disclosed that in view of the ongoing defensive operations by Ukrainian forces in eastern Ukraine, Berlin has begun talks with Washington on military assistance to Kyiv.
He hinted at the possibility of Germany providing more support to Ukraine.
Scholz also said Germany will send 12 self-propelled armored artillery systems to Ukraine in the coming weeks and will soon finish training Ukrainian soldiers how to operate them.
