3-day holiday starts after lockdown lifted in Shanghai NHK

People in Shanghai are enjoying a three-day holiday after emerging from more than two months of tough coronavirus lockdown measures.

Shopping districts in the central Shanghai were buzzing with activity on Friday, a national holiday. Lockdowns were lifted two days earlier in all but some areas where infections were recently confirmed.

A woman who was out shopping said she hopes restrictions on movement will not be re-imposed, but she also wants the authorities not to waste the lessons they've learned over the past two months.

Stores are gradually reopening. Long queues were seen outside some commercial facilities, which are limiting the number of visitors.

Citizens who want to use public transport systems or enter office buildings must also show proof that their PCR tests have come back negative within the last 72 hours.
