Heavy rain forecast for western to eastern Japan NHK

Japanese weather officials are forecasting heavy rain in western and eastern Japan through Monday.

A low-pressure system accompanied by a front is expected to approach Kyushu on Sunday evening and move along the southern coast of western to eastern Japan through Monday.

Localized torrential rains with thunder are forecast, especially along the Pacific coast in western Japan, on Sunday and Monday, and in eastern Japan on Monday.

In the 24 hours through Monday noon, up to 200 millimeters of rain is expected in southern Kyushu and Shikoku, and 180 millimeters in the Kinki and Tokai regions.

Rainfall will likely increase further.

The Meteorological Agency is calling for caution against landslides, flooding in low-lying areas and swollen rivers.
