An explosion at a chemical factory in northern India has left at least eight workers dead and 15 others injured.

The blast took place on Saturday at the factory in Uttar Pradesh state.

Footage shows only the frame of the factory building remains after its roof was blown away.

Local police are investigating the cause of the incident.

Accidents at factories are common in India, where critics cite non-compliance with safety rules and sloppy inspections by regulators.

In August 2019, at least six people were killed in an explosion at a chemical factory in the country's west.

In the following month, at least 20 people were killed when a blast occurred at a firecracker factory in the north.
