Japan's Lower House lawmakers have voted down a no-confidence motion against the Cabinet of Prime Minister Kishida Fumio. The voting on the motion submitted by the largest opposition Constitutional Democratic Party took place at a Lower House plenary session on Thursday. Constitutional Democratic Party Leader Izumi Kenta criticized the Cabinet. He said it has failed to take action against soaring prices that have dampened consumption and dealt a blow to the Japanese economy. The Acting Secretary-General of the main ruling Liberal Democratic Party, Kamikawa Yoko, supported the Cabinet. She said expectations for Kishida's decisiveness and ability to act are growing as he has managed to adapt to changing conditions. The motion was rejected by a majority vote of the ruling coalition and other parties. Prime Minister Kishida told reporters that he won a mandate in the Diet, and said he wants to continue to fulfill his responsibilities. The Constitutional Democratic Party also submitted a no-confidence motion against Lower House Speaker Hosoda Hiroyuki. He has been under fire over sexual harassment allegations reported by a weekly magazine. The opposition party also questioned his remarks that criticized a government-approved electoral reform plan. The motion was also rejected by a majority.
