Japan has started accepting overseas tourists again after easing anti-coronavirus border controls. The long-awaited move is welcome news to businesses across the country. Miyajima Island, in western Japan, is home to one of the country's most famous Shinto shrines. One company there provides cultural experiences for foreign visitors. Tourists can take part in a Japanese tea ceremony, wear a kimono or practice Zen meditation at a facility that opened five years ago. Before the coronavirus pandemic, more than 90 percent of the company's clients were from overseas. But the collapse in visitor numbers forced the facility to close for three months in 2020. It now opens only on days when there are reservations. The head of the facility says she is looking forward to overseas tourists coming again, but she is concerned whether sales will recover to pre-pandemic levels.
