Tokyo logs under 1,000 daily coronavirus cases for 1st time in about 5 months NHK

Tokyo Metropolitan Government officials say they confirmed 960 new cases of coronavirus on Monday. This is the first time in about five months that the capital has registered fewer than 1,000 daily cases.

The latest figure is down by 53 from a week ago, marking the 31st consecutive day of week-on-week decline.

The officials say they confirmed two COVID-19 patients died.

They also say four patients have serious symptoms requiring treatment using ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines. The number is the same as the previous day.
