Australia has qualified for this year's FIFA World Cup after beating Peru in a dramatic penalty shootout.

Both teams remained scoreless in Monday's match in Qatar until the end of extra time. The fate of the match was then left in the hands of the two goalkeepers.

Australia substituted its goalie for Andrew Redmayne who danced across the goal line waving his arms in an attempt to mislead the kickers.

It worked and he stopped Peru's last shot on goal, becoming Australia's unlikely hero.
The Socceroos will face off against the defending champion France, Denmark and Tunisia in Group D play.

It was a long journey for Australia. The team finished in third place in their Asian qualifier group. But successful playoffs granted them their fifth consecutive World Cup spot.

Australia's neighbor New Zealand still has a chance as well. The Kiwis will compete for the last World Cup ticket against Costa Rica on Tuesday.
The winner will meet Japan, Spain and Germany in the tournament that kicks off in November.
