Japan's political parties are set to begin their campaigning for the Upper House election scheduled for July 10.

The 150-day ordinary session of the Diet ended on Wednesday.

Official campaigning for the Upper House race kicks off next Wednesday.

Campaign issues will likely include measures to tackle surging food and energy prices following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, foreign and defense policies and anti-coronavirus measures.

The ruling coalition of the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito is likely to set a goal of maintaining its majority in the 248-seat Upper House.

The opposition camp will try to grab more than half the contested 125 seats to gain momentum. The opposition parties and groups are preparing their campaign strategies to stress their differences from the government and ruling coalition.
