A strong earthquake struck the Noto region on the Sea of Japan coast in central Japan around 3:08 p.m. on Sunday. Officials say there is no tsunami threat. The quake registered lower 6 on Japan's seismic intensity scale of zero to 7 at Suzu City, lower 5 at Noto Town and 4 in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Fire officials in Suzu City say no damage has been reported, and they are collecting information. The Meteorological Agency says the quake had an estimated magnitude of 5.2. Hokuriku Electric Power Company says no irregularities were found at the Shika nuclear power plant in the prefecture. East Japan Railway Company says Hokuriku Shinkansen bullet trains are operating as scheduled.
