Sales of goods for coping with heat and saving electricity are climbing amid Japan&#039;s unusually high temperatures.
                
Household-goods retailer Loft says its sales of items for staying cool surged 70 percent in June from a year earlier.
                
These include sunscreens to be sprayed on as cold foam and neck coolers made with special materials. Masks designed to feel cool against the skin are also popular.
                
Loft says sales of such items are brisk at this outlet in Tokyo, and that it&#039;s trying to ensure it has sufficient stock.
                
A shopper says she wants to overcome the heat with the help of these goods.
                
Meanwhile, demand is also up for energy-saving products. That&#039;s after the government called on residents to cut electricity usage, the first such request in seven years.
                
Home-improvement store operator DCM says popular goods include sun-blocking sheets for outdoor air conditioner units. The heat-reflecting coverings can save electricity by preventing air conditioners from overheating in the sun.
                
Window films that reduce sunlight coming in have also been popular.
                
DCM says sales in the category more than tripled in the last week of June from the same period last year.
                
The company says it is getting more inquiries following an earlier-than-usual end of the rainy season and the government&#039;s request for energy-saving efforts.
                
The firm also says it will work to meet demand, adding that summer temperatures are forecast to be quite high.
