Itoham to raise meat product prices on Oct.1 NHK

Japan's Itoham Foods company says it will raise prices on almost all its products this fall. The company says the reason is the high cost of meat.

The major ham producer on Tuesday announced that 221 of its products will have either their delivery prices raised or content size reduced as of Oct. 1.

But Itoham said prices and contents of products the company developed with supermarkets and other firms would not change.

The company says the margin of the price hikes will be 3 to 30 percent.

A package of its popular pork Vienna sausages will shrink from 127 grams to 120 grams.

And a three-package set of sliced ham that's now two dollars and 30 cents will be raised by roughly ten cents.

It's the second time this year that the company has raised prices. Itoham also increased them in March.

The soaring costs of meat and other ingredients are forcing many food companies to raise prices.

Nippon Ham also announced similar size revisions and price hikes last week.
