A private survey shows Japanese consumers will face further price hikes for food and beverages. Credit research firm Teikoku Databank polled 105 major domestic manufacturers. The results showed that, as of the end of June, about 70 percent of the firms had raised or plan to raise their prices in the course of this year. More than 15,000 items are or will be affected, with the average increase of 13 percent. The research firm says there are moves to further raise prices that have already gone up, partly due to the yen's sharp decline. It says such moves will likely grow and projects that the number of items with higher price tags will eventually exceed 20,000.
