The Tokyo Metropolitan Government reported 9,716 new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday. The figure is up 6,100 from a week ago, or about 2.7 times the total last Saturday. This marks the 22nd straight day of week-on-week increases, and the fifth consecutive day that the daily tally more than doubled from a week earlier. The number of seriously ill patients on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines in Tokyo is 10, up three from Friday.
