In Japan's Upper House election, a new party, Sanseito, is projected to win a seat for the first time. The party faced its first Diet election. It was formed two years ago.

Sanseito fielded candidates in all electoral districts, focusing on such issues as economic reform and food safety.

The party's senior official, Kamiya Sohei, told reporters on Sunday night that he was confident the party will gain one seat.

He added that Sanseito will be responsible for what it pledged to the people after gaining a seat in the Diet and that it wants to live up to the promises.

He attributed the reason for gaining a seat to the party's fielding candidates in all electoral districts.
