Iha retains seat in Okinawa NHK

The NHK decision desk says independent incumbent Iha Yoichi has retained his seat in the Okinawa district.

Iha was the mayor of Ginowan City, where the US Marine Corps Futenma Air Station is located.

The Air Station is planned to be relocated to Nago city in the same prefecture. But the prefectural governor strongly opposes that. Iha is backed by the parties opposing the relocation plan. It would be his second term.
