Britain's Conservative Party has announced a timetable for its leadership race after Boris Johnson offered to resign as party leader and prime minister. According to the timetable and rules released on Monday, nominations will close on Tuesday. Then, 358 Tory MPs will hold a round of voting to whittle down candidates. A first and a second ballot are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. The party will get down to the final two candidates before MPs break up for their summer recess on July 21. The final two candidates will be voted on by party members nationwide. The new leader will be announced on September 5. So far 11 people have put their names forward in the contest. They include former Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, junior trade minister Penny Mordaunt, and former Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt. On Monday, Prime Minister Johnson appeared in public for the first time since he revealed his intention to step down. He refused to endorse any of the candidates. He said, "I wouldn't want to damage anybody's chances by offering my support." He added that he just wants to "get on and deliver the mandate that was given" to him.
