Amazon.com says subscribers of its Prime service around the world purchased a record of over 300 million items during its annual summer sales event this week. The US online retail giant says electronics and home products were especially popular during the Prime Day promotion. Consumer research firm Numerator has dug into the numbers, and its survey of shoppers for the 2-day sale shows that 83 percent said inflation weighed on their purchase choices. The firm says about 60 percent of the orders were for food and daily necessities costing 20 dollars or less. But Numerator also says that total online sales in the US during the promotion rose 8.5 percent from last year, hitting a record 11.9 billion dollars.
