The Tokyo Metropolitan Government says it confirmed 18,919 new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday. The daily tally in the capital topped 10,000 for the fifth consecutive day. The figure is up 9,203 from a week ago, or 1.95-times the total of last Saturday. The seven-day average of the daily tally in the capital through Saturday came to 14,106. That was 209.1 percent of the number from a week earlier. Tokyo officials say the number of seriously ill patients on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines is 14, down two from Friday. They also reported two deaths from the virus.
