Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Iran on Tuesday to hold talks with his counterparts from Iran and Turkey. Putin plans to meet Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the capital of Tehran. Their talks are expected to focus on how to respond to economic sanctions imposed on Russia and Iran by Western countries. The leaders are believed to be aiming to bolster strategic relations between the two countries. Putin is also scheduled to hold talks with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan. It will be their first face-to-face meeting since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Turkey and the United Nations are mediating talks between Russia and Ukraine to facilitate the resumption of exports of Ukrainian wheat and other agricultural produce. The four parties held working-level talks on July 13. Putin and Erdogan are expected to discuss the resumption of wheat exports amid growing concerns over a global food crisis. The question is how Putin will respond. Meanwhile, Russian, Iranian and Turkish leaders are expected to exchange views on the situation in Syria and other issues. Putin apparently intends to use the meetings to remind the US and European countries of Russia's close ties with Iran and Turkey. US President Joe Biden visited Middle East nations last week.
