US to send more military support to Ukraine, including HIMARS NHK

The administration of US President Joe Biden says it will send additional military support to Ukraine, including more HIMARS multiple-launch rocket systems.

The administration on Friday announced a package of additional support totaling about 270 million dollars that will include four HIMARS and up to 580 drones.

HIMARS rocket launchers offer a longer range and greater precision than conventional artillery systems. The US has already supplied Ukraine with 12 of these systems.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, the White House National Security Council's Coordinator for Strategic Communications, John Kirby, condemned Russia for carrying out "inhumane" attacks on apartment buildings and shopping malls.

He said the US will support the government of Ukraine and its people for as long as it takes.

Russia's defense ministry said on Friday that its troops attacked the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region, killing about 300 Ukrainian soldiers.

The ministry also said Russian missile attacks destroyed armored vehicles and arsenal in the southern Ukrainian region of Mykolaiv.

The ministry claimed that its forces destroyed 4 HIMARS systems between July 5 and 20.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the HIMARS systems and other weapons provided by the US have helped to blunt Russia's offensive in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donbas.

He said stabilizing the front line in Donbas would allow Ukraine to advance in other directions.
