The Tokyo Metropolitan Government reported 32,698 new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday. The daily tally has exceeded 30,000 in the Japanese capital for the third consecutive day. The latest figure was up 13,779 from a week ago. Tokyo officials say the number of seriously-ill patients on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines is 14, down one from Friday. They also reported seven deaths from the virus.
