Nishiya wins her first X Games title in women's street skateboarding NHK

Japan's youngest Olympic gold medalist, Nishiya Momiji, has won the women's skateboard street competition at one of the world's most prestigious action sports events.

Nine female skateboarders, including four from Japan, took part in the competition in the US state of California on Sunday -- the final day of the five-day X Games.

In street skateboarding, athletes compete on a course that looks like a park and has handrails and stairs.

Nishiya took the top spot by flawlessly pulling off a trick called a bigspin frontside boardslide on a handrail and sliding on the board's back truck in another technique.

This is her first X Games title. The 14-year-old says she is overjoyed about winning with no mistakes in the first run.

Another Japanese skateboarder, Oda Yumeka, age 15, finished third.
