India has reported the first case of monkeypox in the capital, New Delhi. It is the fourth infection detected in the country.
                
The 34-year-old male patient has skin lesions and a fever. The man, from New Delhi, has no history of foreign travel. The three other cases were found in the southern state of Kerala earlier this month, among Indians who are believed to have returned from the Middle East.
                
Suresh Kumar of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital said the hospital sent samples of the patient&#039;s skin and blood to the National Institute of Virology and they tested positive.
                
The Indian government held an emergency meeting on the virus on Sunday. Following the talks, the government instructed the National Centre for Disease Control to investigate the positive cases.
                
On Saturday, the World Health Organization called the global monkeypox outbreak a &quot;public health emergency of international concern.&quot;
                
The WHO has previously declared emergencies for public health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing effort to eradicate polio.
