The Russian president's office says President Vladimir Putin will not attend the state funeral of former Japanese prime minister Abe Shinzo. Abe was fatally shot earlier this month during a campaign speech in western Japan. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told Russian media on Monday that "Putin has no plan to visit Japan, to participate in the funeral." He said the level of participation "will be determined later." Abe's state funeral is set for September 27 at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo. Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Isozaki Yoshihiko told reporters on Monday that the government has notified all countries that Japan has diplomatic ties with, including Russia, about Abe's funeral.
