US, Europe rush to roll out monkeypox vaccines to curb outbreak NHK

The United States and European countries are rolling out monkeypox vaccines to try to curb the outbreak.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says nearly 18,100 cases have been reported in 75 countries and territories as of Monday.

The US has the highest case count at 3,846, followed by Spain, Germany, Britain and France.

A vaccination center opened on Tuesday in Paris. About 10 staff members give the shot and provide consultations for people who may have been infected.

The French government says it has opened more than 100 centers and more than 6,000 people have been inoculated.

Vaccine rollout is expected to gain momentum with the opening of the center in the capital, where about half of the cases in France have been confirmed.
