Leaders of Japan, Indonesia likely to agree to cooperate for G20 summit NHK

Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and Indonesian President Joko Widodo are expected to agree to work together for the success of the Group of 20 summit to be held on the Indonesian island of Bali in November.

Joko is scheduled to arrive in Japan on Wednesday for his first visit to the country in three years.

The two leaders are also likely to discuss responses to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Japan is an important economic partner for Indonesia, the Southeast Asian country hopes to deepen bilateral cooperation in such fields as renewable energy and electric vehicles to achieve carbon neutrality.

During his stay, Joko is also due to have an audience with Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako.

The president is on an East Asia tour. He met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Tuesday, and is scheduled to meet South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol on Thursday.
