Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has revealed that President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan will meet in Sochi, southern Russia, on Friday next week. He said the two leaders will discuss regional issues and bilateral ties. Turkish media also reported that the talks will take place, citing information from the country's presidential office. The leaders met in Iran just last week. Observers say Putin wants to highlight Russia's ties with Turkey, a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, to counter the United States. Erdogan is expected to ask Putin to implement an agreement to allow Ukraine to resume grain exports. Turkey acted as a mediator for the deal. He will also likely urge the Russian leader to reopen ceasefire talks with Ukraine.
