Heavy rainfall was reported in some parts of Japan, especially in Kyoto and Hokkaido prefectures, on Wednesday. Weather officials are urging people to be alert for possible landslides, flooding in low-lying areas and swollen rivers. The Meteorological Agency says atmospheric conditions are unstable in western to northern Japan as warm and moist air flows from the south. Radar analysis indicates that about 90 millimeters of rain per hour fell in Kyoto Prefecture's Kyotamba Town and Ashoro Town in Hokkaido. The agency forecasts up to 120 millimeters of rain for the Kanto-Koshin region, 100 millimeters for the Tokai region and 80 millimeters for the Tohoku region during the 24-hour period through Thursday evening.
