Russian President Vladimir Putin says hypersonic Zircon cruise missiles will be deployed on a Russian navy frigate in the coming months. Putin made the announcement at a ceremony in St. Petersburg to mark Russia's Navy Day on Sunday. He said the area of the missiles' deployment will depend on Russian interests. More than 40 warships, including vessels with Kalibr cruise missiles and submarines, 42 aircraft, and about 3,500 servicemen took part in the event. Putin stressed the importance of naval power, which he said is able to swiftly respond to any infringement of Russia's sovereignty and freedom. He added that the Russian navy can carry out strategic missions without fail at borders or in any parts of oceans around the world. Russia's military is stepping up its offensive in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk, seeking to take full control of the region. The Institute for the Study of War, a US think tank, published an analysis on Saturday that says Russian forces are likely prioritizing offensive operations toward Bathmat and around Donetsk City. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Saturday a mandatory evacuation of the Donetsk region as many people remain there. Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk also stressed the need for all residents to evacuate before winter. Meanwhile, Ukraine forces are fighting back in the south. They say they killed more than 100 Russian troops and destroyed seven tanks on Friday.
