Ukraine evacuees in Japan receive breastfeeding clothes NHK

An organization in Ibaraki Prefecture, north of Tokyo, is providing breastfeeding clothes to evacuees from Ukraine with young children.

The Ibaraki International Association has mainly been assisting evacuees who live in the prefecture by dispatching volunteers and lending them translation devices.

The association also started to collaborate with a breastfeeding clothes manufacturer in the prefecture and has sent the garments and underwear to five families across Japan so far.

Three of the families took part in an online session with association officials last week.

A woman, whose first name is Lana, gave birth after arriving in Japan and now lives in Kanagawa Prefecture near Tokyo. She was wearing breastfeeding clothing she received from the association. She said she is grateful to have it and that it is comfy and fits perfectly.

Association officials asked the Ukrainians to share what they find difficult about living in Japan. The evacuees said it is hard to plan for the future and that they are struggling to learn Japanese while taking care of their children.

The association's head, Nemoto Hirofumi, says it will continue listening to evacuees' concerns while working with the prefectural office to come up with ways to offer them better assistance.
