Reports: Pelosi heading to Taiwan despite warnings NHK

One of the most senior political figures in Washington could be setting foot in Taiwan. There's been weeks of speculation, but multiple media reports say US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is now on her way.

Pelosi arrived in Malaysia on Tuesday for the second leg of an Asian tour that also includes South Korea and Japan.

A stop in Taiwan is unconfirmed, but local newspaper Liberty Times says she is set to arrive shortly after 10 p.m. on Tuesday.
What's more, a flight-tracking website shows the US Air Force jet on which Pelosi has been traveling is currently airborne.
Other media reports quote a diplomatic source as saying she could meet Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen on Wednesday.

Still, senior diplomats in Taipei are keeping mum. Taiwanese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou said, "The main reason we cannot remark about whether Speaker Nancy Pelosi is coming to Taiwan is because she herself has not given confirmation. There have not been further clarifications. And this is why we have no further comment."
