Foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations have discussed issues related to Myanmar and Taiwan among other topics at a meeting in Cambodia. The ASEAN foreign ministers hold a meeting in the capital, Phnom Penh, on Wednesday. ASEAN foreign ministries say many of their ministers expressed concern that Myanmar's military has been reluctant to follow an agreement reached with ASEAN aimed at resolving the conflict in the country that calls for an immediate stop to violence against citizens. Malaysia reportedly urges further measures if no major progress is made by the military, such as suspending Myanmar from the bloc. The ministers also spoke on Taiwan as China is reacting sharply to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit there. In their statement, they called on all concerned parties "to try their best to de-escalate tensions and avoid actions that may contribute to the escalation of tensions." On Thursday, the ASEAN ministers are to hold a meeting with their counterparts from three East Asian nations -- Japan's Hayashi Yoshimasa, China's Wang Yi and South Korea's Park Jin. They are expected to confirm further cooperation to deal with the food crisis triggered by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. They will also likely discuss regional issues, including those related to Myanmar and Taiwan.
