Donetsk governor says Russian forces targeted civilians NHK

Russian defense officials say their forces are hammering targets in eastern and southern Ukraine. They say missile attacks in the Donetsk region have killed enemy troops. But Ukrainian authorities say the strikes are hitting civilian targets.

The governor of Donetsk region, Pavlo Kyrylenko said Russian shells struck a "public transportation stop."
He said eight people were killed and four wounded, including three children. He said the Russians are targeting citizens on a daily basis, and he has urged residents to evacuate.

Ukrainian forces have launched their own offensives in the south. British military officials say troops are using missile and artillery units to target logistical support bases. They say the strikes are likely hampering Russian efforts to fortify their supply lines.
Leaders in the region and beyond have been working to ensure that shipments of grain can leave ports in southern Ukraine. The first ship departed Odesa on Monday and is on its way to Lebanon.

Turkey's defense minister said three other vessels are getting ready to set sail. And he said more cargo ships will be inspected in Istanbul and head to Ukraine to be loaded with cargo.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin want to discuss the issue face-to-face. They are scheduled to hold talks in Russia on Friday.
Summary
Russian forces attack targets in eastern and southern Ukraine, allegedly killing enemy troops but also hitting civilian areas according to Ukrainian authorities. The governor of Donetsk region reported eight deaths and four injuries from a shelling incident at a public transportation stop.
