A Myanmar court has sentenced the country's ousted de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi to six more years in prison after finding her guilty in four graft cases. Myanmar's state-run media reported that the trial took place in the capital, Naypyitaw, on Monday. She was convicted of obtaining land at below market prices for a foundation in which she assumed a senior role, and other charges. With this verdict, Aung San Suu Kyi has been given a total of 17 years in jail in the 10 cases brought against her since the military took power in a coup last year. She had already been found guilty of sedition and other charges. The trials handing down one guilty sentence after another to the Nobel Peace Prize laureate are widely seen as an attempt by the military to remove her from politics for good.
