Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has expressed hope that Japanese companies will contribute to addressing global healthcare issues. Gates spoke at an event in Tokyo on Friday. Leaders of 10 Japanese companies from industries including pharmaceuticals and trade were among the attendees. Gates, who runs a foundation to support the fight against infectious diseases and other issues, said global healthcare standards have gone backwards due to the coronavirus pandemic. The representatives of the Japanese companies explained their activities, including the development of therapeutics for infectious diseases and support for low-temperature transport of vaccines. Gates pointed to the need for innovation, and said the Japanese business community can contribute to many areas such as drug design and AI.
