Heavy rains and lightning forecast across Japan NHK

Warm damp air flowing toward a low pressure system is likely to make atmospheric conditions unstable over wide areas of eastern and western Japan.

Weather officials say torrential rain and lightning is expected in the southwestern region of Kyushu. They are warning of landslides and flooding in low lying places.

Forecasters say rain clouds have been formed locally from the Hokuriku to Kyushu regions. Multiple locations in Kyushu recorded more than 50 millimeters of hourly rainfall early Sunday morning.

The second-highest alert was in place as of 7:00 a.m. on Sunday for parts of Ishikawa and Okayama prefectures where there is a high risk of landslides.
The unstable atmospheric conditions could continue through Sunday.

Up to 100 millimeters of rain may fall in Hokuriku and northern Kyushu, and 80 millimeters in the Kansai region, in the 24 hours through Sunday evening.
Summary
Unstable atmospheric conditions expected over eastern and western Japan, with heavy rain and lightning predicted in Kyushu. Forecasters warn of landslides and flooding, particularly in low-lying areas. Hourly rainfall exceeding 50mm recorded in multiple locations in Kyushu. Highest alert issued
