The Japanese government is set to reaffirm its response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine at a meeting of Cabinet ministers on Tuesday. Wednesday will mark six months since the start of the invasion. The meeting will be attended by Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu, Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa and other relevant Cabinet members. Kishida will take part online, as he has been infected with the coronavirus. They are expected to reaffirm that Japan will work with Group of Seven members and other countries to continue its sanctions against Russia and support for Ukraine. They also plan to share information on fighting in Ukraine, diplomatic negotiations among countries concerned, and the trends of global energy markets and prices. Matsuno on Monday said that Japan respects Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said Japan stands with the people of Ukraine, who are doing their utmost to defend their homeland against Russia's aggression.
