US prepares to reinforce Ukrainians with more weapons NHK

Officials in the US say they are preparing what could be their largest package of military aid since the Russians invaded Ukraine. The assistance to equip and train Ukrainian forces would be worth 3 billion dollars.

The goal is to help shore up Ukrainian defenses over the medium to long term. Officials could announce the package on Wednesday to coincide with Ukraine's Independence Day.

The Biden administration has already provided 9.9 billion dollars in security assistance since the start of the invasion. That includes more than 8,500 Javelins, 27,000 other anti-armor systems and 1,400 Stinger anti-aircraft weapons. Since June, US military officials have provided 16 HIMARS systems, which some analysts say have been a "game changer" in the war in favor of the Ukrainians.
