A US senator has arrived in Taiwan, marking the third visit there by US congressional lawmakers this month despite China&#039;s opposition to such trips.
                
An aircraft carrying Marsha Blackburn, a Republican from Tennessee, touched down at Taipei&#039;s airport on Thursday night.
                
Taiwan&#039;s presidential office and foreign ministry say Blackburn will meet President Tsai Ing-wen and others during her three-day stay to discuss issues such as security as well as economic and trade relations.
                
The foreign ministry says the senator&#039;s visit demonstrated unwavering support for Taiwan at a time when China has been stirring tensions in the region by escalating its threats toward Taiwan.
                
US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan earlier this month, becoming the first incumbent in her capacity to do so in 25 years.
                
China responded to Pelosi&#039;s trip by staging large-scale military exercises around Taiwan, including ballistic missile launches.
