Japan's Environment Ministry is moving to provide financial support for small- and medium-sized businesses in the push to decarbonize the supply chain. The government has set the year 2050 as the goal to achieve carbon neutrality. In the budget allocations for next fiscal year, the ministry plans to request 10 billion yen, or about 73 million dollars, to help smaller businesses acquire technology that will reduce their emission of carbon dioxide. That is more than double the figure for this fiscal year. The ministry also plans to ask for more than 10 million dollars to help companies draw up action plans for assessing and reducing their emissions. In total, the ministry is set to request 5.4 billion dollars in the budget framework for fiscal 2023. That's up by more than 600 million dollars from its initial budget for this fiscal year. Emphasis is being placed on measures that include community- and society-wide decarbonization efforts, recycling of waste materials and the preservation of biodiversity.
