Reservations for domestic flights around Japan during the upcoming spring holidays are at the same level as last year.
                
Bookings with 11 airlines for the ten-day period from April 27th totaled 2.62 million as of Friday.
                
Japan has four days that are national holidays during the period.
                
Two leading airlines, All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines, say their bookings for flights departing Tokyo are expected to peak on April 27, and for flights arriving in Tokyo, on May 6.
                
For international flights, six major carriers have so far received a total of 490,000 reservations, about 1.2 times the amount for last year.
ANA says flights to Hawaii, South Korea and Thailand are popular. JAL says many people have booked flights to Australia, Taiwan and Europe.
                
Airlines say overseas trips are up as fears about the coronavirus recede. It&#039;s been almost a year since Japan downgraded COVID-19 to the same level as seasonal flu.
