Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio is holding online talks with African leaders as part of the eighth Tokyo International Conference on African Development, or TICAD, currently being held in Tunisia. Kishida, the co-host of TICAD 8, is taking part remotely while he recovers from COVID. The Prime Minister held separate talks with leaders of Libya, Egypt, Senegal and Tanzania on Saturday on the sidelines of the conference. He reaffirmed his cooperation with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on the COP27 UN climate conference, scheduled to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh in November. Senegalese President Macky Sall, who currently chairs the African Union, expressed his gratitude for private investments from Japan. The two leaders agreed to enhance relations between the two countries in line with the outcome of the TICAD conference. Kishida is scheduled to hold online meetings with three other African leaders on Sunday.
